04-April 30-2008 :
Fifty year's nearly has come and gone almost
since the Big Faith I helped build and was launched at the ship yards in River Rouge, Michigan .To the fellow workers at GLEW
ship yards i was known as Loge, first a welder helper then a welder . I am very thankful that i have got to talk to a couple
of fellow ship yard workers , one was my foremen ( Whitey )
it gave me much pleasure to talk to MR. White after so many
years. It has been 47 years since I left the yard in 1961 if my math serve's me right . I also had the pleasure of talking to Mr.
ED DEMENSKY * HOPE I SPELLED THE NAME RIGHT * who was a riveter. Iam hoping that some other fellow workers from the yard will come forth and that we may get to talk again after so many years ! maybe someone will remember me as loge ? I sure
remember quiet a few welder helper's, welder's tank men burner's from the welding department also I recall some in other department's. One gentleman I certainly remember that worked in another department ( not sure which one ) but he was red headed and an honest man too. Because in my rush one Friday just after I got my pay, which was cash in a brown envelope
( being young and in hurry to go on a week end trip to my original home state of KY ) I thought I was sticking my PAY in my front pocket, but after I drove down Great Lakes Ave. always I thought I would see how much money I had drawn but to my dismay my pay slip was missing. So I knew what happened and I quickly turned around went back to the armed guards that paid
me and asked if by chance anyone might have turned in my pay slip. ( Man said yes your a lucky man ) a man turned it in and it's in the office. Well I asked the man's name, sorry I can't remember his name but he had red hair. So on Monday I looked him up and offered him a reward but he refused it so I gave him some anyway. So he says you know I looked at that money and thought if a man works out side in the cold weather as we did that he just must need it so he says I turned it in . ( a very honest man indeed )
IM not sure I'll be able to be at the 50th in June the 7th but in
case I'm not I want to say to anyone that may read this that I think of the comradeship I feel for you all that worked along side me at the ship yards . A close bond is formed working together
sharing memories together would be nice so, if you do remember me or not, I would love to talk to you, but best wishes to one and all that I spent 4 years working along side helping build the EDMUND FITZGERALD . MAY GOD BE WITH YOU ALL.

THANKS

TO ROSCOE CLARK FOR LETTING ME SHARE SOME MEMORIES AND GETTING IN TOUCH WITH A COUPLE OF FELLOW FORMER WORKERS ( ESPECIALLY MY FOREMEN LAUREN WHITE )
HE WAS THE BEST BOSS I EVER HAD.
